Abstract

Isolated anosmia is an uncommon presenting complaint that may result from a wide range of sinonasal, neurological, infectious, or idiopathic conditions. Early evaluation is important for identifying potentially treatable causes. This retrospective clinical review analyzed the demographic characteristics, underlying etiologies, diagnostic findings, and treatment outcomes of patients presenting with isolated anosmia in outpatient practice. Sinonasal inflammatory disease represented the most frequently identified cause, followed by post-infectious olfactory dysfunction and idiopathic cases. Most patients underwent nasal endoscopy and imaging when clinically indicated. Symptomatic improvement was observed in individuals receiving treatment directed toward reversible underlying conditions. Comprehensive assessment remains essential for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of isolated anosmia.
