Incidental Splenic Cysts Detected During Routine Abdominal Ultrasonography: Clinical Features and Follow-up Outcomes

Incidental splenic cysts are uncommon findings during abdominal imaging and are frequently discovered in asymptomatic individuals. This retrospective imaging review evaluated the clinical characteristics and follow-up outcomes of patients with incidentally detected splenic cysts identified during routine abdominal ultrasonography. Data regarding cyst size, imaging appearance, associated symptoms, and subsequent clinical management were reviewed. Most lesions were small, asymptomatic, and remained stable during follow-up. Conservative observation was appropriate in the majority of patients, while larger or symptomatic cysts required further imaging evaluation or surgical consultation. Recognition of the benign nature of most incidental splenic cysts may help avoid unnecessary interventions while ensuring appropriate surveillance when indicated.
